Dodgy Detours is a small walking tour group that designs bespoke walks for those who want to see Sydney from different angles. At Dodgy Detours we are interested in art in public places, the built environment, a sense of place, history and the stories that make our city what it is. Tours are generally in English but we can do them in other languages if pre-arranged.

Where do we go?

Our walks are developed to satisfy the curiosity and passion of our guides. We hope what interests us about Sydney interests you. Most walks explore urban environments but we hope to include walks in more natural settings over time. We build walks carefully as we research and trial each excursion many times. Our walks are generally urban explorations and so are suitable for most people – however they are not suitable for those unable to manage stairs.

When do we go?

We have walks on every day except Sunday – see calendar for details.

Walk 1 (Monday – Friday) leaves Milson’s Point Station at 9am in all weather.

Walk 2 (Monday – Saturday) leaves Marrickville Station at 1pm in all weather.

Availability

Please go to the calendar page on this site and check for available spaces. When you see a time that suits please email us at dodgydetours@gmail.com and tell us your preferred time and we will respond within 24 hours. On this page Dodgy Detours will keep the  calendar updated to help you select. Remember we have an upper limit of 8  – however 6 is our preferred number.

What to bring?

Curiosity, a sense of humour, walking shoes, hat, sunscreen and water. It might also be a good idea to bring a snack / fruit although both can be bought along the way.

How many people on each walk?

As mentioned above, we like to make our walks friendly, personal experiences where you get a chance to chat with your fellow walkers. For this reason we limit group numbers.

Can children come along?

The short answer is yes, but the walks are really only suitable for children 10 and over.

How much does it cost?

We used to work on a donation basis but guests reported that this made them somewhat uncomfortable. For 2020 we have decided to charge $25 / guest. This payment can be made after the walk by a direct transfer to the Dodgy Detour account.

Can I request a private walking tour?

If you are a single traveller or a couple and you would like to do an advertised walk privately the cost would be $50 / per person. If you would like a guide for a non-advertised walk the cost would be $A30 / person / hour. These walks can be designed with your particular focus in mind – anything from street art, Asian food, fresh markets, famous crime spots and so on. Just give Dodgy Detours an email at least a month in advance.

Is Dodgy Detours insured?

Yes, Dodgy Detours is insured with a public liability policy.
